| ABOUT US |
| Mead Street Gallery and Gifts Mead Street Gallery, formerly the Marketplace Gallery, found its roots at the Wichita Farm and Art Market. Thanks to David and D.J. Burk, major contributors of the Old Town redevelopment, the founders of the gallery were able to establish a unique art environment. But times change and cities grow, and the artisans of the Marketplace have moved to a wonderful new space --Mead Street! The Mead Street Gallery is located in the historic Smyth-Mead building. Originally built in 1905, the Smyth building served as a warehouse before the fire of 1911. The exterior walls and basement were all that were left of the original building. Architect Fred G. McCune incorporated the remaining structure into his design and it certainly adds to the ambiance of our Gallery. It still reflects the vision of the two original artist and those who have joined thru the years. Mead Street Gallery & Gifts is a co-op gallery dedicated to promoting the work of the Co-op Artists, featuring original paintings and sculptures, reproductions, cards, plus a unique collection of gift items, consignment art and jewelry. The gallery is always a fun place, featuring local and regional artists, some of whom maintain studio space at the gallery and teach as well. Not only can you appreciate the hanging art, you can learn to "do it yourself". Stop by for a visit with the Studio Artists: Lynne Ziegler, weaving at one of her eight looms: Kay Ferris, as she creates imaginative creatures for the Ferris Fantasy Art Farm; Kevin Stillwell sewing beautiful purses and totes for all occasions; Curtis Newby busily painting, in a variety of mediums; Brook Lyman featuring colorful paintings and reproductions. Browse the Gallery for that perfect gift, for yourself or someone special. Above all else - Enjoy the Art and the Artists! |
